Politicians, Banks, Economists & The Reserve Bank of Australia...and Alan Jones!! All frustrating, all egotistically correct at all times & most without a shred of credibility!
But it's hard for us, the ordinary people who they are generally here to serve, to attract their attention:
And what if you can't get someone's attention? What's the best way of releasing the pressure? Easy! You get it off your chest in a blog post!! ..............And here's what I need to get off my chest, in no particular order chronological or otherwise:
So, can someone please tell:
Kevin Rudd to stop holding press conferences every time Julia Gillard is out of town! He is NOT even the alternative Prime Minister! That job rightly belongs to Malcolm Turnbull! ....Ooops! I mean Tony Abbott!
Wayne Swan to stop taking the credit for Australia's lucky escape because of China's hunger for our resources & the mining boom! We all knew Peter Costello was the luckiest Treasurer Australia had ever had, smirking his way through the wave of an unprecedented global growth taking the credit for everything including many of the astute leadership decisions John Howard had the courage to make!
But Costello's luck fades into insignificance compared to Wayne Swan's hapless but lucky time at the helm riding on the coincidental mining boom which has technically kept Australia out of a recession! And I say technically because talk to most SMEs in many sectors such as manufacturing, Tourism, Retailing & construction & they would tell you their respective sectors have been in deep recession since early 2010. So, Mr Swan: that wonky smirk will be wiped off your face soon, because someone should remind:
Glenn Stevens, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) & his Board that it's almost too little too late to hope that monitory easing is going to magically make the non mining sectors of the economy carry Australia beyond the mining boom!
Mr Stevens, the struggling sectors of the economy you & the RBA Board have all of a sudden become interested in were until recently referred to as "whining & inefficient" by ......you.!
It's a bit rich to hope they can cover your slow decision making & dare I say mistakes & dig you & the rest of us out of your trouble which due to slow reaction to the signs of deepening recession in those sectors, which you as recently as mid 2012 dismissed as whining & lack of innovation!
The signs have all been there for months & months Mr Stevens. The sluggish retail sector with all those high profile collapses not to mention thousands of SMEs suffering the same fate, the contracting construction sector, the struggling tourism & manufacturing, the contraction in the service sector key numbers which in broad terms accounts for the 75% of the GDP.......
In fact don't be surprised if by the time Glenn Stevens steps down from his position, he does so with very little credibility & with his corporate reputation in tatters. But let's tell:
Those fine iconic & much loved!! Aussie institutions, ie our four major banks in particular, which continue to rob everyone the wrong way by racking up record profits whilst not passing on interest rate reductions to their customers, that we know they are ripping everyone off!
So, NAB, WESTPAC, CBA & ANZ & the rest, we much prefer you did it openly & honestly. Don't keep blaming the costs of funds in the global markets as an excuse to rip us off! Just tell us you are doing it because you can!
Don't get me wrong! I understand the (very) basics of finance & economics to acknowledge banks need to be strong & profitable for the economy to function.
What I resent is the fact that four major banks continue to deprive business liquidity & make a lot of SMEs suffer in order for the banks to correct their lax profligate practices of the pre GFC days (the practices which have already started to creep back into practice in Wall St)
At any case, with the signs of mining boom slow down clearly on the horizon, Australia will probably needs an official interest rate of around 2.5% to survive the rocky road ahead. That is until at least when the US & European consumers kick start buying Chinese made goods again (& good luck with waiting for that to happen soon!)
And last but not least, Alan Jones, surely you are more intelligent than those right wing deceitful US shock jocks who you seem to so desperately admire & try to copy!
Australian public & the political scene in Australia deserve better & the voters here are more intelligent than those fools in the US who follow Fox News & Rush Limbaugh & the likes. As you say it yourself, go hard on the issues which deserve attention but be fair on the people.
As an individual, Julia Gillard is one of the warmest & most personable politicians Australia has ever had. To constantly insult & attack her on a personal level only makes you look like a fool!
On the other hand, as a government Julia Gillard & Wayne Swan have a lot to answer for & will hopefully do at the polls in 2013.
Alan Jones, it may be too late, but try to redeem the remaining shreds of your credibility by objectively questioning & bringing the Government to account. Surely you are capable of doing that even though most of other shock jocks in this country lack the intelligence & objectivity to do so!
